THE 3RD ROUND OF POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS HELD BETWEEN THE MINISTRIES OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES

On 30 October 2023, the 3rd round of political consultations at the level of deputy ministers was held between the ministries of foreign affairs of Georgia and the Republic of the Philippines in Tbilisi.

The consultations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, from the side of Georgia, and by the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maria Teresa Lazaro, from the Republic of the Philippines.

Within the framework of the consultations, the sides discussed in detail the current issues of relations between Georgia and the Republic of the Philippines and the prospects for their further development, both in bilateral and multilateral formats. The positive dynamics of ongoing cooperation between the countries were noted with satisfaction and the importance of activating high-level visits was emphasized in this regard. The sides discussed in detail the issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to discussing prospects for future cooperation in the economic area. The Philippine side paid special attention to cooperation in the trade and economic fields. In this regard, the conversation touched on the development of relations between the two countries in the fields of tourism, agriculture, transport and logistics. In addition, it was noted that the establishment  of direct flights between Georgia and the Republic of the Philippines is important for the activation of people-to-people relations.

Discussions focused on regional security issues. The Georgian representatives provided their colleagues with updated information regarding the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.

At the end of the political consultations, the sides once again confirmed their readiness to continue close interaction, which will contribute to the maximum realization of cooperation potential.
