ILIA DARCHIASHVILI MEETS WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE GEORGIA-JAPAN'S PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP

On 5 May  2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, met with Ichiro Aisawa, the chairman of the Georgia-Japan's parliamentary friendship group. At the meeting, the sides highly appreciated the existing bilateral cooperation and long-term friendship between Georgia and Japan. They expressed their satisfaction regarding the dynamics of parliamentary relations between the two countries over the recent period as evidenced by the fruitful visit of the delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to Japan last year.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed specific aspects of cooperation between Georgia and Japan in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

Special emphasis was put on the importance of further activating trade and economic relations. Particular attention, in this regard, was paid to the need to strengthen cooperation in the area of connectivity.

Discussions focused on the importance of granting a visa-free regime to Georgian citizens and the possibility of scheduling direct flights between Georgia and Japan, which is important for the full realization of tourism potential and economic cooperation.
 
The Minister of Foreign Affairs provided the Japanese parliamentarians with detailed information about the reforms carried out by Georgia on the way to EU integration and thanked them for their support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

At the end of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed the importance of friendly and partnership relations between the countries and expressed the hope that through their joint efforts, the existing cooperation will be further expanded.
